NV firefighters
lauded for burn
camp support

FIVE NORTH Vancouver
District firefighters were hon-
ored at Monday night’s council
meeting for their part in orga-
nizing and running a summer
camp for burn-injured children.

Eighteen children aged six to 18
from across the province were
accommodated at the North
Vancouver Outdoor School in
Paradise Vallev near Brackendale.

The camp, which will become an
annual event, was staffed by volun-
teer nurses, therapists and firefight-
ers and funded by the B.C.
Professional Fire Fighters Burn
Fund.

The purpose of the camp is to
provide children who have suffered
burn injuries the opportunity to
meet each other and to feel Icss

atone in their rehabilitation and
fecovery process.

The five district firetighters who
teceived certificates of commenda-
tion are:

Mayor Murray Dykeman told
the firefighters that the municipality
was proud of their efforts in bring-
ing about the burn camp.

“Firefighters have always been a
major part of our community, not
just the bad things, but the good
things,” said Dykeman.

Fire Chief Rick Grant described
the district firefighters as represen-
tative of ali fizefighters who give
their time off to community pro-
jects. Firefighters will seek commu-
nity support next year to provide an
expanded camp during the week of
July 16-21.
