Rada started their figure skating club in 1960 and has since trained several skating greats including Karen Magnussen. Pupp named coach of the year From page 14 fege 2-1 in the semifinals, and then waited in vain for defending champions VCC to show. “They were ready for VCC, I tell you,’’ said Blues coach Frank Pupp. The championship game, between the Blues and Langara, is now scheduled for I p.m. this Saturday at BCIT. © Biggest Bunglers: VCC's Langara Faicons (with the Remembrance weekend road washouts providing some excuse). The Falcons were supposed to take the bus to Kamloops on Fri- day and didn’t, then tried to go up on Saturday and couldn’t. As a result, tournament organizers at Cariboo College had a flop on their hands. The Blues hope that VCC’s play in the final will be as disorganized as their planning. ©Coach of the year: The women’s Frank Pupp, who was awarded the honor fast week by the B.C. Colleges’ Athletic Association. His Blues have won the provincial championship twice in the last five years and have never missed the playoffs. This year, Pupp managed to guide his team to a 6-3-] record while losing players by the bun- ches. Goalkeeper Christine Corben was out for three games, and top striker Amy Abercrombie was forced by illness to quit school while at least three other women also missed games. © Unsung Hero of the Season: The women’s Christy Keyland, whose outstanding play was recognized by the league last week when she was named to the pro- vincial All-Star team. The quote, “Christy Keyland controlled the entire midfield,*’ became a favorite of Pupp’s this season. © Unsung Hero of the Last Eight Years: The men’s coach, Joe lacobellis. His Blues have won the provincial championship § six out of eight seasons, and the na- tional championship two of the last three. Inexplicably, Iacobellis _ has never been named Coach of the Year in the men’s league. The award went to Fraser Valley coach Scott Fast.
