Volunteer opportunit

NORTH SHORE women are in-
vited to learn abcut the programs
and philosophy of the North Shore
Women’s Centre at an upcoming
volunteer information and orienta-
tion session.

On Monday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.,
participants can find out how to
become a volunteer supporter of
NSWC by working on newsletter
production, library cataloguing,

committees, computers or in the
office.

NSWC coordinator Kathy Dor-
nan, who will facilitate the two-
hour session, says there is 2 current
need for volunteers to assist in the
planning and implementation of a
mothers’ and children’s informa-
tion fair in March 1990.

“The fair will be a day-long
event focusing on services in the
community available to women

with children. We are looking for
people to be part of a planning
team: to liase with participants and
workshop presenters, organize
child care, publicity, food and
entertainment,”’ said Dornan.

She added that, ‘‘as a smali
organization, NSWC offers oppor-
tunities for volunteers that peopie
may not have access to in other
piaces. The responsibility and the
experience gained can be very

valuable.”’

Since many women wno volun-
teer are whimately seeking paid
work, the centre makes available
experience in job-related skills such
as word processing. | White at-

session, women will be assisted in
defining what their personal goals
are for their volunteer experience,
to help ensure that their time is
spent meaningfully.

The North Shore Women’s Cen-
tre is a non-profit society that has
been in operation since 1974. Its
purpose is to improve the status of
women through public education
and and social development pro-
grams. NSWC also offers infor-
matien and referral! for women.
