Film explores
Pakistan

FILM-MAKER JENS Bijerre travels to the kingdom of Hunza in the
remote Karakoram mountains of Northern Pakistan in the latest World
Adventure Tours film.

Showing at Centennial Theatre Nov. 3, the film looks at the people of
that region and how they live in what is called one of the world’s last
frontiers.

“I was highly impressed by the fitness of the many elderly people
clambering over the slopes,’’ Bjerre says in a film introduction. ‘‘The
recipe is obvious: an active life free from mental stress,..clean air and
healthy food.”

W. Shore art students
: receive scholarships

THREE NORTH Shore arts students now have $300 to spend on paint
and supplies after being named the recipients of the West Vancouver Vi-
. sual Arts Society’s annual scholarship.
i * - Emily Carr College of Art and Design students Cathie Schecter and
r Geoff Curtis along with Emily Carr graduate Michele Searle shared the
4 scholarship.
* “This year (we) had three promising and deserving North Shore art
a students,” said society president Norma Sorensen. ‘‘As it was impossible
* to decide among them, the decision was made to divide the scholarship.’’
A portion of the money cames from the society through a trust fund
held by the West Vancouver Foundation, with the remainder being a
i grant from the B.C. Cultural Fund administered by the West Vancouver
: Community Arts Council.
In eight years, the society has helped 11 promising students with a total
of more than $5,000 in grants.
