Silver Har- bour Centre, 144 E. 22nd St., N.V. 1:30-4 p.m. RCMP marks bikes NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are urging local cyclists to have bicycles marked for free May 16 as part of the drive to reduce bicycle thefts in North Vancouver. Using a driver’s licence number, bikes are marked in at least seven different spots to prevent theft of removable parts such as. seats, pedals or wheels. “We have found that ‘thieves will strip off the parts leaving only a frame,” said Cst. Cliff Doherty. “*There’s apparently a big market for stolen parts.’’ After marking, a decal lets would-be thieves know the bicycle is marked. “We're finding that the people who have their bicycle marked do not have their bike stolen,’’ said Doherty. ‘‘It’s a deterrent — it seems to work.”’ Starting at 10 a.m., the bike marking program at Capilano Mall runs until 2 p.m. For more infor- mation on the bicycle marking ses- sion, call the RCMP at 985-1311.
