NEWS photo Tom Burtey Peter bowls to victory NORTH VANCOUVER’S Hazel Peter won the Brunswick Lions Gate Lanes Club 55 championship for the 1986-87 season in the May 21 finals of the competition. Over 275 senior bowlers (aged 55 and up) bow! during the regular season in Club 55 leagues at Lions Gate Lanes in West Vancouver. Each bowler competes in the Club 55 Bowler of the Week event which selects the individual who bowls the most number of pins over his own average. Each weekly winner receives a plaque and spot in the champion- ship tournament. Twenty-four weekly winners were on hand May 20 for a two- game round of pins-over-average’ competition which eliminated half the field. The rest moved into the semi- finals which involved another two-game round of pins-over- average competition. The top five people became eligible for the step-ladder finals held the next day. Juanita Turrebadelt of North Vancouver qualified fifth and defeated fourth-place qualifier Joan Robertson of West Van- couver in a 183 to 152 match. Torrebadell then -went on to defeat North. Vancouver’s Ed Shadeck in a closer match of 180 to 168. John Busby, who qualified se- cond, rolled an excellent 196 game which was enough to stop Tor- rebadel!’s winning streak. Tor- rebadell scored a still-respectable 159. In the final match between Busby and Peter, Busby put the push on in the eighth, ninth and 10th frames but it was not enough to beat Peter as she achieved a spare and a nine-count to win 145 to 143, The centre champion received a trophy, shirt and jacket.
