Katimavik deadline approaches

YOUNG PEOPLE across
Canada have less than two
weeks to apply for summer
admission to Katimavik, the
national youth volunteer
service program,
Applications must be
received by March 29 for
projects that begin June 26.
Forms are available by call-
ing the program's toll-free

number, 112-800-361-8077.
(In the Yukon, 1-800-361-
§077).

Katimavik will have about
2000 openings this year, in-
cluding 220 from B.C. and
the Yukon. Applicants must
be Canadian citizens or
landed immigrants between
the ages of 17 and 21.

Participants spend nine

months in the program.
They receive pocket money
of one dollar a day and a
$1,000 honorarium on com-
pletion.

Another group of projects
will begin September 4, with
an application deadline of
May 31.

in the Pacific region, vol-
unteers will work with

community organizations on
six B.C. projects that begin
April 17, Katimavik teams
of 12 people, chosen from
all parts of the country, will
return to Fort St. John and
Agassiz/Harrison. Other
groups take over from
departing volunteers in Fort
Nelson, Dawson Creek and
Victoria.
