The majority of North Vancouver School trustees feel they have no mght to determine which foreign students can enter the public school system in North Vancouver. For that reason they defeated an amendment by Trustee David Craig which would have allowed up to 10 foreign students to attend North Vancouver schools uf they paid the full cost of education. Discussion on the subject took place at the regular school board meeting Tuesday night as trustees determined a policy on allowing non-Canadian students tnto the public school system. . Under the policy finally passed by the board. landed immigrants will be given the same priviledges as Canadians; children of people with employment visas will be allowed to attend school for a lmited penod of time, and children visiting relatives or fnends may be permitted to attend An assortment of quality used and out of pramnt titles in ART & ARCHITECTURE Pacific Books 1135 Lonsdale North Vancouver 980-2121 ALL HUNG school as a visitor. “Other categories of students will not ordinarily be granted permission to attend except in ex- ceptional circumstances,” the policy says. An amendment to have a completely mgid policy and delete the words “except in excepuional circumstances” was defeated when Superintendent Rod Wickstom said that there are about six of these cases a year and they have to be taken care of. The policy discussion was continued from the last board meeting because trustees wanted time to consider Craig’s amendment which would have allowed any foreign students to attend North Vancouver schools. “We very clearly have a TV & Stereo Sales & Service Authorized Hitachi Dealer Consumer Rated No. 1 estimates & citizens discount at free senior UNITED ELECTRONICS 1980 LTD. 985-4595 108 W. 2nd North Vancouver UP, these students of Maplewood com the ‘Big Toy’ that was erected recently for their use.
