Opening postponed WELL, MAYBE he was just a tittle overconfident. Tom Lightburn, the new operator of Park Royal Theatre, says the triple-screen cinema will now open Sept. 24, not Sept. 16 as reported in last week's arts briefs section. Lightburn was forced to postpone the opening when he learned the theatre’s new marquee would not be ready for the planned Sept. 16 gala re-opening. “We wanted to get everything up to snuff,” he said. West Vancouver mayor Mark Sager applauded the theatre’s resurrection as a second-run cinema, saying a community as dedicated to the arts ‘needs and deserves a local cinema." The opening lineup includes The Crying Game, Strictly Ballroom, Aladdin, Lite With Mikey, Cliffhanger and Last Ac- tion Hero. antock talk INTERNATIONALLY-ACCLAIMED author Nick Bantock will be making an appearance at West Vancouver Memorial Library this Saturday to read from his latest book. - The Bowen island author, whose best-selling book Griffin and Sabine has received rave reviews, will discuss The Golden Mean, which ends the love story of the Griffin and Sabine characters.
