Elligott placed third in women's singles (45-50 age group). Wins bronze in New Mexico By Andrew McCredie Sports Editor MARG Elligott made a deal with the North Shore News’ sports department, and last week she upheld her side of the bargain — we took her picture. Here’s the story: Marg is (well, was) known to the sports department as the mother of a trio of talented local soccer players, In fact, it was Marg who drove son David, sidelined from the Vancouver 86ers this season with a damaged knee, toa recent interview at the News. Well, turns out humble mom isn’t that shabby on the field of play herself. Two weeks ago members of the Elligort clan (make that male members) began leaving mysterious messages on the News’ sportsline, offering info about Marg’s upcoming trip to the World Seniors’ Racquetball Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also mysteriously, all ended with the caveat “When you talk to her, whatever you do, don’t tell her I called you.” And sure enough, once contacted, Marg played down the fact she was one of only 12 B.C, players to com- pete at the 12-country tour- nament. A story and picture? It’s no big deal, really, she said. “I'll make you a deal,” she relented a few cays before leaving for New Mexico. “If T win a medal I'll come in and get my picture.” And a picture we got. Marg, competing in hot, hot New Mexico weather one mile above sea-level, played 38 games in 12 matches to finish third in women’s singles (45-50 age group). She credits her success to training at the Brentwood Raquect Club and support of her sponsors, including Ektelon rep Darryl Warren and the B.C.BA, And, of course, those male members of the family. ‘ ay “Free courtes Age FELL AVENK LONSDALE PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINIC Providing General Physical Therapy Since 1983 SPECIAL INTEREST IN: Neck & Back Pain, Sprains & Strains Shoulder Pain, Hand Injuries, Tendonitis, Rehabilitation Of Fractures & Foot Problems ALSO PROVIDING ASSESSMENT & TREATMENT FOR: SPORT, WORK & MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT Related Injuries And Return to Work Conditioning Medical referral appreciated but not required KEN COOK 987-6663 2908 LONSDALE, NORTH VANCOUVER Born 1985/86 Born 1983/84 Born 1981/82 Born 78/79/80 | Randy 988-9707 Taekwondo is one of the fastest growing sports in Nerth America, but the focus isn’t on winning.
