Noel, old boy, if vou had only taken the tine to check with the Ballard people here-in our own North Vancouver, you might not have written such a dark and criti- eal picture describing electric cars. Fin only a layman, by the way, and ['m not.connected in any way with Ballard, but for your informa- lion we might be sitting on top of the biggest energy breakthrough in the entire world right here in North Van with their fuel cell, which is now being developed for iany heavy-duty applications including energy for power plants, ships, buses, trucks and autos. Running on natural gas or hydrogen-based chemistry, the fuel cell design, which is exclusive to Ballard. provides whisper-quiet power with absolutely. no pollution —~ the exhaust being pure water vapor. If they succeed, then North Van will be wortd famous us the verue for solving the world’s energy and pollution crises. Please Noel, rejoice rather than criticize. Gordon M. Grant North Vancouver Help preserve North Shore mountain slopes Dear Editor: ‘It blows my mind that anyone in their right mind would even consider the destruction of any more trees on the North Shore mountains. Presently they look as though they have had a really bad haircut. Everyday these mountains get more and more bald and very soon the trees, which make Vancouver so beautiful, will be gone forever. Have we forgotten so soon the Hope/Princeton slide when half a mountain slid into the river? | would suggest that-a multi-million-dollar estate would lose some of its resale value if it has to be viewed as it floats under the Second Narrows Bridge. Rather than destroying more trees we should be planting trees like crazy on these slopes in an effort to stabi- lize them. If we have a major land- slide on the North Shore, the reaction from the politicians, developers and mut nationals would be “Oops, sor- e!" Then they would gallop off to destroy the next mountain on their shopping list. Colin W. Their trucks are big and powerful and they know all of us dri- ving our little cars are scared silly of what they'll do if we blow our horn. And I'm no different. I'm scared of them. So all | can do is get angrier and angrier.” Suddenly the funeral car in front flashed his right blinkers. . “Boy, am (in luck, finally, that car in front of me is getting off the road.
