new performer

Competition versions of
the 13B rotary RX-7 raced,
and won, in the GTO class at
the renowned Daytona
24-hour endurance race in
both 1982 and 1983, each
ume setting a new record for
highest’ finish ever by a
Japanese manufacturer at the
event.

The new production model
of the 13B owes its impressive
performance to a number of
technical advances, among
which are a Dynamic Effect
Intake system, six port induc-
tion and electronic gasoline
injection. The engine’s
displacement 1s 1308 cc.

The GSL-SE powerplant
also features several
refinements that enhance its
driveability and durability:

The oi! supply system uses
injectors to feed onl directly
onto the trochoidal surface
of each combustion chamber
to ensure efficient
lubrication.

The trochoidal surfaces
themselves have been chrome
plated in a manner that pro-
vides a micro-porous finish
This new finish helps retain a
greater amount of lubricant
on the trochoid, resulting in
reduced wear. ‘

A bypass air control
system has been added to
maintain engine speed at a
constant 800 rpm the system,
automatically adjusting the
bypass air (resulting in an ac-
companying adjustment of
the fuel injection) to compen-
sate for power drains such as
arr conditioning and power
steering. This assures smooth
operation even during warm
up, and takes the rotary’s
already exceptional
smoothness a step further

The GSI SE sophistication
