Kighth annual
dealers’ fundraising
auction set for April

THE EIGHTH Annual B.C.
Auto Dealers/Special Olym-
pics Auction will take place at
the Vancouver Trade and
Convention Centre on Friday,
April 8.

The auto dealer-sponsored event
is the major fundraiser of the year
for the B.C. Special Olympics.

’ Since the inception of the auc-
tion in 1987, B.C, auto dealers have
raised more than $840,000 for men-
tally and physically challenged ath-
letes,

More than 2.000 athletes train
year-round in community-based
programs with quality coaching and
instruction.

Since 1987, athlete membership
in the programs has doubled and
the number of communities running
programs has increased to a total of
39.

Mentally stimulating and physi-
cally therapeutic sport programs are
run throughout the province. They
include aquatics, figure skating,

power lifting, bowling, gymnastics
and soccer.

Association member auto deal-
ers produce the auction and work
year-round for the cause. In addi-
tion to providing vehicles used by
the B.C. Special Olympics. the
dealers assist in other fundraising
projects and volunteer to work
directly with the athletes.

The auction will be a gala
evening attended by more than
1,000 supporters. Dinner, and both
silent and live auctions will be fea-
tured.

Bid items will range in value
from $50 to $1,000, from local get-
aways to new-model vehicles.

Along with the auto dealer sup-
port, the B.C. Special Olympics
relies on private donations from
individuals and community service
groups.
