save Hollyburn for everyone Dear Editor: 1 read with interest and some amusenient the letter of S. Stastpy {May 35, NSN) who claim: you caa sec wilderness for mites and mils: from the top oi the moun- tains in Cypress Provincial Park and, therefore, (1 assume she means) we don’t need anymore wilderness preserved in the park itself. Not only is much of this wilderness she sees. inaccessible to the average hiker or walker, but it p'ans to put a downhill ski run on the south flank of the mountain cutting through old growth yellow cedar and the Baden Powell Trail. Contrary to her statement that new trails are in areas that ‘‘are only sparsely treed with no old growth,” this area of Hollyburn is actually covered in trees and is all old growth. Hollyburn is a beautiful moun- tain with historic trails and old cabins, alpine meadows and lakes, and old growth forest. It is wonderfully accessible to a large population and its wilderness fla- vor is sorely needed and appreci- ated by growing numbers of peo- ple. I have nothing against downhill skiers. | am one myself. But two mountains out of three is enough for any ski operator to have in a provincial park. Let’s save Hollyburn for everyone else.
