Local Big Brothers honored NORTH SHORE Big Brothers were recently recognized for completing one year of service as a volunteer with the agency. The men each received a silvet lapel pin and certificates at a cer- emony held on Monday, Feb. 17 at the RCMP hall in Vancouver. The little brothers were awarded an “‘Award of Merit’? for their contribution to the relationship. Each big and little brother pair has spent two to six hours a week for the past year, participating in activities they both enjoy. North Shore men who received awards include: Kevin Lee, David Martin, John Shannon and Kevin Will- ington. Due to the strong response to this year’s advertising campaign, Big Brothers has been able to significantly reduce its waiting list of litle brothers in the North Shore area. “We are now in a _ position where we can take applications for little brothers in North and West Vancouver,’’ says Program Supervisor Caro! Forcier. Boys who are between the ages of seven and 12 and who come from male-absent homes are eli- gible for the program. “The relationship between a big and a little brother is very positive and fulfilling, as you can see from the number of pairs who are honored each year at the awards ceremony,”’ adds Carol.
