Songwriters
sought

NORTH SHORE composers are

invited to enter Write-On 7°90,
Vancouver's major songwriting
contest.

Write-On ‘90 features six
categories — Rock Harder,
Rock/Pop Softer, Coun-
try/Folk/Contemporary, Soul/

Funk/R&B/Jazz Gospel — and a

new category for works that
employ the theme of AIDS.
Winners will receive over

$25,000 in prizes including studio
time at Mushroom, Profile and
Vancouver Studios.

The Institute of Communication
Arts is running its third annual
songwriting contest as a_ benefit
for AIDS Vancouver. Proceeds
from the contest's $5 entry fee
will go directly to AIDS Van-
couver’s Emergency Assistance
Fuad.

The contest deadline has been
extended to Dec. 31, 1990. Final
judging will take place early next
year.

Greek opens

WEST VANCOUVER actor Ian
Morton joins the cast of Greek
tonight for the play's Vancouver
debut at Vancouver Little Theatre.

Morton, who studied at
Guilford School of Acting in
Great Britain and toured with
Lauren Bacall in Sweet Bird of
Youth, plays the father of Eddie,
the play’s hero.

English playwright Steven
Berkhoft’s Greek is a rags-to-
riches tale that utters a coarse but
poetic outc:. against the decaying
world. Berkhoff creates explicit
visceral images by combining high
poetry and London vernacular in-
to what has been described as ‘‘a
mass of verbal pyrotechnics.”’

Berkhoff's past works include

Fast, Metamorphosis and De-
cadence.
Morton's credits include the

Kits House Production of Cook
and Love on the Plastic.

Ramsbottom joins violinist. Mark
Ferris on the clarinet: tomorrow,
