This is a very important time for the games this year, as B.C. will play host, for the first time, to the 1990 Canadian Special Olympics. In keeping with the Olympic tradition, these national games for mentally handicapped adults are held every four years. The games will be centred at UBC, coinciding with the university's 75th anniver- sary. A total of some 800 athletes from all 10 provinces and two ter- ritories will participate, including about 185 B.C. competitors. Opening ceremonies will be held at B.C.
