Power Smart show looks
at home energy efficiency

B.C. HYDRO will have its own
Home Improvement Show this fall
to promote the Power Smart con-
servation program.

The show will focus on products
that exemplify energy efficiency
and is co-sponsored by the Build-
ing Supply Dealers Association of
British Columbia.

“It will be an event to educate
the consumer on the proper use of
home improvement products,”
stated Hydro’s Shell Busey, a 30-
year veteran of the home ccnstruc-
tion industry.

The show will be held September
27-30 at the PNE’s Show Mart
Building and entrance costs will be
kept to a minimum to encourage
attendance by the general public.

“Power Smart has been cunning

only a year now, but already man-
ufacturers have jumped on board
the Power Smart movement by
designing and making products
that are truly energy efficient.
They range from appliances,
equipment and building materials
to windows and doors,’? Busey
said.

**Construction methods have
also become Power Smart,’’ he
commented. ‘‘That’s why we’re
placing special emphasis to ‘Show
to’’ demonstrations which will ap-
peal to the do-it-yourself public as
well as the professionals.

*“We’re very grateful that build-
ing supply dealers have taken up
the flag with us on Power Smart,"
said Busey.

Tickets will be $3 for adults, $2
for seniors and students, and no
charge for children under 13.
Coupons offering reduced parking
and entrance fees are planned for
distribution at participating
dealers.

“Hydro’s Power Smart program
is aimed at changing the public’s
ethic toward energy usage, and we
can show them how manufacturers
have adopted this new approach
towards energy efficiency,”’ con-
cluded Busey.
