Van housing report reflects many residents’ concerns Dear Editor: I read with great interest the ar- ticle in the Sept. 28 edition of the News entitled West Van Housing Study Criticized. Mr. Wardell’s and Mr. Poskitt’s statements in that article only reflect their main concern, namely getting the maximum amount of dollars cut of a single family lot by erecting the biggest house possible for the maximum price. The consultant's report reflects many West Vancouver residents’ concerns about the overbuilding happening in the municipality right now. There are many smaller, older character homes in West Van- couver that are immaculate and have a good many more years in them yet (which is more than [ can say for a lot of the housing Mr. Wardell is defending); homes that Theft not amusing § Dear Editor: I'd like the hooligans to know how much they annoyed me and my immediate family when on Halloween night they stole from my front porch the large pumpkin which had been an appropriate of- fering to the occasion since early evening. It had been prepared by my grandson, who had his sixth birth- day recently, over many hours of concentrated effort on his part. About 10 p.m., after the candle had been burning for some hours, I decided to remove the pumpkin, but it was not where it had been all evening. It was lying in a broken and unsightly mess in the middle of the road, between Woods and Terrace, and had probably been used as a football. I cleared up the mess rather sad- ly. We had planned to take a shot of my grandson, in his costume, with the pumpkin next night. I was not amused — just very angry. L.wW. Young people starting out would like to have a chance to buy an o'der home but can’t af- ford it, especially in West Van- couver. But they might have a chance if we start to leave some of our smaller and older homes stan- ding and at least give them an op- tion. I just hope the mayor and coun- cil take note of the consultant’s report and consider the recom- mendations therein carefully. If they fisten to the likes of Mr. Wardell and Mr. Poskitt every character home will disappear and be replaced by 5,000 sq. ft. boxes and West Vancouver’s ambiance will be fost forever. Angela J.
