New service delivers
tender opportunities

BUSINESSES IN the _ regions
throughout British Columbia will
have equal opportunity to bid on
government purchasing contracts
through computer-fed information
available at their local agencies.

The inauguration of a database
called the Public Tender Oppor-
tunities Network (PTON) was an-
nounced recently by Minister of
International Business John Jansen
and Minister of Government
Management Services Cliff
Michael.

The PTON database is being
made available at the business in-
formation centres operated by
chambers of commerce and at
government agents’ offices all over
the province.

The database supplements an ex-
isting computer information
system, the B.C. Business Net-
work, which provides other
business opportunity information
to British Columbians.

“The PTON will mean that

every business in the province has
equal access to government pur-
chasing requirements,’’ said
Jansen. ‘‘Tenders may range from
grass seed needed in Castlegar to a
matrix printer for a government
office in Clearbrook.”

PTON provides details of public
tender bidding opportunities in
British Columbia, making it possi-
ble for immediate, simultaneous
availability of information to all
Network subscribers.

The Network currently displays
only public sector tenders (known
as Invitations to Quote) issued by
the Purchasing Commission.

Michael said plans are under
way to expand PTON to include
information about tendering op-
portunities from other public sec-
tor organizations.
