& ~ Wednesday, August 31, 1988 - North Shore News MAILBOX _ ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES COMMISSION Finlay represented council Dear Editor: I have been advised that in your issue of Sunday, Aug. 14 a state- ment was made by Myr. Noel Wright that no member of the West Vancouver Council attended the recent hearings of the Electoral Boundaries Commission. This is untrue. As acting mayor, | attended the commission hearings on Thursday, Aug. 11. 1 understood John Reynolds, our MLA, would make a verbal submission in support of West Vancouver retaining its pres- ent provincial riding boundary. Mr. Reynolds chose to submit a letter instead, with various other persons making verbal submissions in favoc of keeping our present boundary. The chief commissioner, Judge T.K. Fisher, pointed out that our request, although understandable, was impossible to achieve because of the mandate which he had been KHieip the police Dear Editor: On June t, our family cat was “gut shot’? with a pellet gun or 22 calibre pistol or rifle. The incident was reported to the RCMP, District of North Vancouver. The shooting occurred in the Seymour River area. The sadist who shot the cat could be a Seymour River or Blueridge area resident, or a transient person passing through. The pellet went completely through the body of the cat, perforating its internal organs. The deepest tragedy of this inci- dent is that few people are aware of this incident and that no one has been apprehended, in spite of the efforts of the RCMP (with special appreciation to Const. B. Gabriel). This means that some sadistic, callous, unthinking person is still at loose ‘9 shoot again — your cat, your dog, your child. (The Animal Emergency Clinic and RCMP agree that the impact of such a missile could easily blind or kill a child). One can only ask that all parents in the North Vancouver area whose children have guns of any sort ask them whether they have been shooting at animals at any time. Surely, it is not too much to ask that parents also supervise the use of guns their children may have. If you have any respect for the relatively peaceful lifestyle of the rapidly expanding North Shore community, | urge you to consider that only neighborly cooperation will assure that it continues. This happened to our family. Tomorrow it could be your family. Prevention rather than correction is the solution. As one neighbor to another, | urge you to report any suspicious activities to the RCMP, whether they involve careless use of guns, child molestation, burglary or anything else which deteriorates the lifestyle of all of us. Please don’t be afraid to phone the police. They cannot perform their vital job without public co- Operation. Elinor E. Ryan North Vancouver .
