These are the buyers, usually in their 50s and 60s, who find changes in their lives mean changes to their housing requirements. Retirement invites many to travel. Others find that once their children are grown and leave home, their large family home seems empty and many of its rooms are unused, “What we find people in the mature adult group primarily want is single-level living, preferably with a master bedroom on the ground or main floor, plus as many of the trim- mings in the way of recreation facili- lies and amenities as they are pre- pared to pay for,” says Michael Audain, president of Polygon Prop- erties Lid. Like other major real estate deve- lopers, Polygon has carefully ana- lysed the needs of the mature home- buyer. The company’s recently opened Charleston Green project in Surrey is being sold exclusively to the 40-and-older buyer. Ona six-acre site just east of King George Highway, the condominiums are accessed by 64th Avenue to the south, a street that also flanks the ‘Surrey Public Market. The 57-units at Charleston Green have been designed by architect Neil Pelman to resemble Cape Cod cottages. The special touches include bayed and mullioned kit- chen windows, white shutters, picket fences and weather vanes on the - roof, BAYED WINDOWS, weather vanes and picket fences give units a cottage look There are two basie floor plans in the units, which are joined in small clusters of two, four or six. Both plans sre two-level, but with a unique difference that sees the mas- ter bedroom placed on the main floor. The upper Noor has a second bedroum and.a full bathroom, mak- ing an ideal guest suite. Prices vary from $79,900 for the smaller units (1,315 to 1,324 square feet) Lo $97,900 for the largest (1,507 - square feet). Each townhouse also has an enclosed single car garage. There are two interior finishing packages to choose from. Both are in neutral colors, with the main differ- ences being carpet shade and the laminate cabinets in the kilchens and bathrooms, which come with either bleached or dark oak trim.
