It was the night that Blue Northern finally headlined its own show in Vancouver and proved that its new- found fame is reasonably well deserved. But ali those people who arrived late just to hear Blue Northern and omit the opening acts, missed some of the best music. Not only did we have the Fabulous Beaks and their Rolling Stones songs (which went downhill after “Dead Flowers’ and bottomed out with a poor version of “The Girl with Far Away Eyes’), but we were also treated to a number of people wearing Lone Ranger masks and calling themselves the Mysterious Night Riders. What was surprising about them is they played some of the best music in the whole show - pure country. By the time Blue Northern came on stage, the stocks of Prince George beer were seriously depleted and the Commodore was reaching its customary tropical rain forest température. All the smartly dressed teenagers were boogying along and really seemed to appreciate the brand of country and western pop THE BLUE LAGOON (R) Odeon Granville 2:00, 4:00, 6:00, 8:00, 10:00. The music seemed a bit bland after the high country and western orientation of the opening acts but it sure filled up the dance floor. Yes, we did have a good time, just listening to ail that good music and watching all those beautiful bodies. I suppose the evening could be summed up by the lead singer of the Fabulous Beaks who told a touching tale of a troubled love affair between “an oriental” and a ‘white woman" in Whitehorse. “That’s why I decided to write this song about cocaine,” he said.
