The commission has approved the first phase of the 1991-92 an- tual service plan. When the pro- posed first quarter changes come into effect on April 15, new routes and more frequent midday service will be added to several areas in the Vancouver Regional Transit System, including North Van- couver. Changes will also take effect in Vancouver, New Westminster. Bus service PROPOSED CHANGES 10 ex- press bus-route #257, between Horseshoe Bay and downtown Vancouver, will be discussed at an informal open house meeting to be held, Thursday, Feb. 21, 5-9 pm. at West Bay Elementary School in West Vancouver. By Maureen Curtis Contributing Writer Route #257 provides an express service via the Upper Levels Highway and currently operates during peak hours, with trips tim- ed to connect with Bowen Island and Langdale (Sunshine Coast) ferry arrivals and departures. Additional service would be provided to accommodate seasonal passenger demand. B.C. Transit also wants to re- route the #257 along West- mount (connecting with 31st Street and Marine Drive) to encourage the use of Park-Ride facilities at 31st. The proposed changes should address the problem of over- crowding at the ferry terminal and improve bus service to the western part of the municipality. B.C. Transit and West Van- couver municipal staff will be on hand at the Feb. 21 informa- tion meeting to address any com- ments or concerns. The commission increased the incentives for bike ciders in Ov- tober 1990 by approving increased hours for passengers with bicycles. Cyclists can use the SeaBus during all off-peak hours and on weekends and holidays. tn addition, bike riders no longer have to pay the additional one-zone fare that was charged for taking their bicycles on board. The transit commission has also approved the issue of 18,000 free GradPasses this year, which is a special pass just for arads. The passes will be distributed to Grade 12 students ino the Van- couver Regional Transit service and will be valid for travel on any two days fram May 15 to June 30, 1991. “Weare concerned for the safety of graduating students dur- ing the months of May and June.
