Lam writing in response to Paul
St. Pierre's appalling column,
“Gelling to the heart of the hunting
season,” which appeared in the
Sept. 16 News.

Frankly. his argument presented
for the question, “Why KHI?" was
nothing short of ridiculous,

His colunin did remind me, haw:
ever, of a number of studies [| read
concerning this very issue —~ why
many men (these particular studies
concerned only men) need to hunt.

Justus St. Plerre suggests in his
column, that men Mil because there
is a Sense of satisfaction, this was
the finding of these studies.

Frequently, according to the
studies, the men who hunt ate inen
with problems af imputeace. For
them, hunting. the act of pulling the
trigger and taking a fife, provides
the very real and, perhaps the fast.
possibility of achieving orgasm.

At the time the study's findings
seemed far-fetched. Having read St.
Pierre's column I'm much less sure
that they were. 1 would suggest that
it is time for him and other hunters

Paul St. Pierre (North Shore
News Sept. 16). is evidently uneasy
about some of the issues involved
in sport hunting.

He should contemplate the fol-
lowing quotation, in che original
English from Thomas Hardy, who
believed that it was in any circum-
stances, “immoral and anmanly to
cultivate @ pleasure in Compassing
the death of our weaker and sim-
pler fellow creatures by cunning,
instead of learning to regard their
destruction, if a necessity, as an
odious task, akin to thal. say. of the
common hangman.”
