HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT of
a stolen car Sunday was just
one highlight of a busy
holiday weekend for West
Vancouver police.

The chase started about
12:30 p.m. in Ambleside
after complaints from citi-
zens about erratic driving by
the driver of a 1973 Dodge
Charger.

An initial police attempt
to stop the vehicle failed and
the car sped off west along
Marine Dirve followed by
police with emergency
equipment operating.

Between 15th Street and
Cypress Park shopping
centre, where the fleeing
vehicle was finally brought
to a halt by police, the chase

Wild 78 mph car chase

(78 m.p.h.).

The driver was arrested
and subsequent investigation
showed the car to have been
stolen from Langley.

In custody, charged with
theft over $200, possession
of stolen property over $200
and criminal negligence in
the operation of a motor
vehicle, is a 16-year-old
juvenile from a Lower
Mainland youth detention
centre.

According to police, the
juvenile originally gave a
false name but was later
identified through finger-
prints.

Altogether, between noon
Friday and Monday morning

West Van Police Depart-
ment reported some 200
incidents and calls for
service.
They
plaints

included 25 com-
regarding noisy
parties and other distur-
bances, together with noti-
fications of thefts, break-ins
and vandalism.

A total of 42 dozen bottles
of beer and 10 bottles of
spirits were seized from
revellers on beaches, in
parks and outside private
residences during the first 72

hours of the holiday
weekend.
Two impaired driving

charges were laid and five
24-hour driving suspensions
were handed out.

Restore grant cuts says NV City

North Vancouver City
aldermen have voted to
petition Victoria to restore
municipal funding to 1981
levels.

Council's decision
followed the initiative set by
the District of Surrey in late
April. Surrey decided to
“petition the provincial
government to modify the
budget to retain the Revenue
Sharing Act Unconditional
Grants at 1981 levels.”
