I urge res- idents to vote ‘no’ on the 320 Taylor Way plebiscite to ensure that a portion of the site remains available to accommodate future changes/improvements to the Taylor Way/Marine Drive in- tersection. Consider, for example, how would a grade separated intersec- tion at this location ever be ac- commodated on ‘less land’ than that of the present roadways only? A grade separated intersection may be necessary to accommodate a future Low Level Road, which will have to terminate somewhere west of the Capilano River. What are the alternatives to Taylor Way? Perhaps lith, 13th or 15th Street. Each of these would severely impact Ambleside Park and well-established residential neighborhoods. Now is the time to preserve all traffic improvement options. Any new building development at 320 Taylor Way should be discouraged at this time. Garry J. Nielsen West Vancouver Return Capilano to park space Eventually this corner was bought back by the Dear Editor: I can remember when we entered West Vancouver, breathing our lungs full of the fresh greenery on the west Capilano. Then came the day when a naively greedy council sold this land to a motor company for a paltry $20,000, even though a generous citizen agreed to pay that amount to keep the land as park. The company was to have a showroom — no proliferation of parked cars. a green park, municipality for $1 million, since when a procession of planners has dreamt up nightmare ideas. Many of you have travelled elsewhere, and have enjoyed sylvan walks on river banks (eg. along the Thames or at Salisbury). Our Capilano could be just as beautiful. Let’s return it to in Britain and Jean Comeron Baynes West Vancouver ‘Pre-packaged slate’ questioned Dear Editor: Vote for a pre-packaged slate of candidates proposed by a group of anonymous ‘‘concerned citizens’? I can’t buy that. It’s like donating at one of those “mystery bundles’”’ booths at a church bazaar — a risk — except that much more is at stake in Saturday’s West Van- couver municipal elections. That’s why we must be sure that the people we elect have proven records of ability and credibility, with no hidden ties that could im- pede their judgment on issues af- fecting West Van’s future. Mayor Don Lanskail, a!derman Pat Boname and school board chairman Barbara Howard have already demonstrated their com- mitment to our community. They’re not part of a package deal. When I vote for them on Saturday I won't have to worry for fear of getting something I have no use for.
