THE VANCOUVER Symphony
Orchestra will perform at Stantey
Park’s Malkin Bowl, Jericho Beach
and VanDusen Gardens Sept. 18
as part of the There’s Music in the
Air Weekend.

Kicking off the evening of Sept.
16 with a concert fund-raiser
headlined by Dollie de Luxe and
other entertainment, the event
aims to raise $1 million in support
of the Vancouver Symphony Or-
chestra,

At the family day events 1 p.m.
to 5 p.m. Sept. 18, performers at
the three venues will include
Charlotte Diamond, Mya Max,
Randy Charach and a host of rov-
ing street entertainers.

popular divisions and a second-
place award in the classical divi-
sion,

An earlier competition in Seattle
saw him collect similar awards.

Now going into Grade 10 at

Balmoral Junior Secondary,
Strashek has been playing the ac-
ceordian for almost 11 years, the
trumpet for six.

Schoolmates used to chide him
about playing the accordian, but
not anymore.

“They used to bug me, but
when they heard me they can ap-
