Polish human rights

Dear Editor:

The Communists have long sap-
ped the world in the name of a
social system, with which those at
whom their propaganda 1s aimed
have no experience,

It is especially convincing, it
their lies and distortions originate
in the West, concocted by their
apologizers. {t is then rather easy
to unbalance and disorient public
opinion, and, thus sway it in their
favor.

It is even more believable: if they
can, through subtlety of disinfor-
mation, project to the democratic

socialist countries and a blackened
picture of others, such as done by
one Alexander Kadulski in Jan. 11
issue of North Shore News. His
exhortations en the quality of life
in Communist Poland as opposed
to life in South Africa is a case in
point.

Such ‘lumping together’? may
indeed be very effective, but Iet’s
put this in the proper perspective.
It’s true that South Africa has
earned the rightful hostility of all
the true defenders of human rights
for its official policy of racial

segregation; but same is also true
of the Polish Communist regime
for its rather savage repression of
it. own people.

He should be reminded that
Communism has never eliminated
social injustice, as it likes to claim,
but rather, perpetuated it. ft has
always and everywhere created
scarcity, with its breadlines for
most, and privileges of high living
for selected few. In the wake of all
this, he has the gall to ask:
where is the horror?

Zalm's sex ed commended

Dear Editor:

The recent call for intimate sex
education in our schools appears
to indicate that modern society is
totally committed to indiscriminate
sexual relations, and al! that is
necessary is to protect itself from
the natural consequences of such a
lifestyle.

I found the recent TV coverage
of a class in a-local school being
instructed in the use of condoms
quite disgustingly repugnant, and
it can only lead to greater pro-
miscuity, especially when peer
pressure is taken into account. The
teacher seemed more concerned
with demonstrating” her lack of
common decency thar with
preventing the spread of AiDS.

Quite apart from morality, the
simple laws of nature cannot be
ignored. If one jumps off a.cliff
one can only expect to be seriously
injured; if one eats poisoned fruit

Duo ‘shattered
by charlatan’

Dear Editor:

My parents, both elderly, have
lost out on their lifetime invest-
ment, because of a real estate prof-
iteer.

For over 40 years they have lived
in an area which has been sched-
uled for redeveloprnent. They
hoped to sell their property to a
developer for a better than market
price.

However, just as this seemed
within their grasp, a real estate
speculator bought up several
houses on their street and sold
them to a builder of low-income
housing. My parents could not af-
ford to relocate at the rock-bottom
price they were offered and as a
result will be left behind with a
co-op for company.

How long are we going to stand
by and watch the modest needs of
decent people shattered by this
type of greedy, fast-buck
charlatan?

and we are told — repeatedly —

In each case we are advised to

And if we ignore this advice I do
not see that the premier can logi-
cally be held responsible, as was

recently suggested by someone.
Premier Vander Zalm is to be

commended for his initial response

to this issue, and | am sure that he

has the support of parents who are

concerned about the moral

behavior of their children.
