“The message is clear,”
said Dr. Vincent DeVita.
“Patients with cancer . are
living longer now than ever
before.”

- DeVita . presented the
latest and still-preliminary
cancer ‘survival statistics in a
report’ Monday to the
National Cancer Advisory
Board and said the new
figures from the institute's
cancer surveillance program
confirm or exceed his
survival estimate.

He said those new figures,
based on the results. of
people diagnosed = with
camcer between 1973 and
1979, show that white
patients had a 46 per cent
five-year survival rate. The
figure was 45 per cent for all
races combined.

that as many as 50 per cent
of white patients and 49 per
