second book in the Real Kids Real

The book signing will be the fist meeting

Phone, fax and video are how the 41-vear-
old author pieces together the stories of coura-
geous youth jike James.

The books are meant for a pre-teen to
teenage audience but are also read by adults,
said Morris. They are also used in adult litera-
cy classes. Morris gets most of her story leads
from her readers, who send her tips through
the Internet and mail newspaper clippings,
which is how she came to hear of James’ story.

“We followed it up and tracked David down
and called him,” said Morris, who worked with
James and his grandfather to develop the story
of rheir adventure.

Ar the time of the event, James was living
with his grandfather in West Vancouver during
the week so that he could attend school in the
municipality while the rest of his famiiy lived in
Pitt Meadows.

Morris is now working on her ninth and
tenth books. Fhe book senes is optioned for
television. James” story has been chosen for re-
enactinent in the first season, said the author.
