Orbiting Planet Hollywood

AFTER many months
of preparation, the pop-
ular and trendy restau-
rant Planct Hollywood
has finally opened its
doors across the water
in Vancouver.

A couple of Saturdays ago
a friend and I decided to
check out the new restaurant
located in the old Vancouver
library building near the cor-
ner of Robson and Burrard.

. Gpen arrival, the door per-
son greeted us and directed us
to a line of people. We waited
there to get on an elevator to
take us to the fifth floor where
the restaurant is located.

. After getting off the eleva-
tor.we had a choice, we could
look at one of two merchan-
dise booths (conveniently
located in front of the eleva-
tor). Or we could stand in the
ar for the 40 minutes while
we waited for our name to be
called. Finally, we were shown
to our table and given menus.

Glancing over the menu, I
noticed that they have a num-
ber of peculiar concoctions
like “Chicken Crunch” made
with Cap’n Crunch cereal, and
a number of non-alcoholic

- beverages like Pretty in Pink,
Home Alone and Congo.

My friend and I decided
that the Veggie Burgers were a
safe bet. (Turns out we were
wrong.) We also had milk-
shakes to drink (small but

).
Ben I spoke to a staff
member at Planet Hollywood
about the lack of vegetarian
meals, she said that they will -
be changing the menu slightly
to fit the needs of Vancouver.

With shareholders like
Arnold Schwarzenegger,
Sylvester Stallone, Demi
Moore, Bruce Wiilis, and
Whoopi Goldberg, you can
expect some pretty fabulous
memorabilia. This includes a
life size terminator from.
Terminator 2 and a robot
body suit from Jredge Dredd.
They also have the Flintstones
drum set, and the Star Wars
light sabre chest. And fittingly,
nothing from Demi Moore's
Striptease.

The restaurant is divided
into three separate eating
areas.

The Adventure Room has a
giant rhinoceros head from
Jumanji hanging above a
room with ledbard carpet,
stone walls and assorted action
memorabilia.

The Science Fiction Room
includes props and pieces from
various science fiction movies.

And the main dining area,
The Sky Room features a dio-
rama of celebritics set amongst
the Hollywood Hills, framing
a big, viewing screen. During
your meal you can entertain
yourself by watching, this
screen or many others around
the restaurant that show clips
of movies from the past, pre-
sent and future. They also
have clips of the grand open-
ings of other Planet

Hollywood locations.

For you celebrity stalkers,
there will be a grand opening
night. Unforrunately, the
restaurant will not be open to
the public. All you can do is
stand outside and gawk. The
date is yet to be announced,
but rumor has it thar it will be
at the end of January.

Allin all, Pd say my rating
is pretty fair. Some things
could be worked out, like the

the memorabilia is pretty cool.
This restaurant is more of a
tourist attraction than an
everyday restaurant, but it is
worth checking out. But don’t
go too often, because the nov-
elry will wear off quickly.
