helmet crime

to $100 if caught rid-
ing your bike with no
“helmet on next week.

The provincial _ govern-
ment’s changes to the Motor
Vehicle Act makes approved
bike helmets mandatory in
the province starting on
Tuesday,

. But police in North and
West Vancouver are taking a
soft line on bike helmet crime.

helmet program could be
expanded year-round to
include a variety of food gift
certificates.

Mounties have given hel-
met- -headed youngsters “tick-
ets” for free Dairy Queen ice
cream. Adair said police sug-
gested expanding the positive
enforcement program to

-include adults, who would

receive donated restaurant
gift certificates, for wearing
their helmets. Parents can be
fined for not having bike hel-
mets for their children.
