Libraries preparing for system changes NORTH VANCOUVER District Libraries are close to completing their long-awaited computerized circulation system. In order to accomplish the re- maining tasks as quickly and effi- ciently as possible, the libraries will be implementing some tem- porary cutbacks in service. The first of these involves a short-term freeze on reserves. Starting Friday, March 1, the libraries will be unable to take reserves on books and other library items until May 1. Librarians will still try to locate titles for borrowers in other bran- ches. When the public access termi- nals of the automated system are operative, library users will be able to locate materials and place reserves for themselves and libraries will no longer charge for reserves within the system. Library Storytimes and other programs for children will also be curtailed until the completion of the project. Storytimes end at the Lynn Valley Branch the week of March 7, and at Capilano and Seycove Branches one week later. All programs are expected to resume in mid-April. In addition, each branch will close for a short period to allow’ the maximum number of staff to ‘work on the bar-coding and in- ventory project. Lynn Valley Library will close at 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, and return to normal hours at 9 am. on Saturday, March 30 (Easter Saturday). Seycove Branch will close at 4 p.m. on March 30 and remain closed until Monday, April 8. Capilano Branch will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 and reopens at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 15, Library borrowers are asked to use an alternate branch during this time.
