AN EDMUNDS, Wash. native, Ed
Freutel, recorded a second victory
in his Crossle at Westwood
Motorsport Park recently in the
Canon/Yokohama Challenge for
Formula 1600 cars.

The win moves him into sole
possession of first place in the
points standings for the series,
with 64 points.

Running a strong race and
finishing second, but unable to
catch Freutel, was John Thompson

Calgary driving the Calgary
Copier Van Dieman.

Third was Marty Knoll of North
Vancouver in a Van Dieman for Al
Dyke Auto; and fourth was

Graham Mariacci of Calgary in his
Sabre Racing Reynard.

In fifth was Bob Leitch of
Calgary in a Reynard; sixth was
Andrew Davis of Vancouver in a
Tiga; seventh was Dean Strashok,
Mariacci’s team-mate, also in a
Reynard; and Darren Turner of
Kelowna, B.C. was eighth in a
Bowin.

Rounding out the field was the
Elden of Brad Smith of Langley in
ninth; Scott Cresey of Vancouver
in a Crossle was in 10th; and Basil
Koziak from Edmonton was [1th
in his Lola.

Freutel’s race was almost
flawless as he coasted in the latter
laps to victory. ‘‘Everything all

VINTAGE SPORTS car com-
petitors and motorcycle riders will
test their machines and themselves
at the 9th Annual Historic Race
Weekend at Westwood Circuit
near Coquitlam on July 22 and 23.

Top attraction at this year’s
event will be the 1956 Maserati
250F Formula One race car entered
by Peter Giddings of Walnut
Creek, Calif.

This type was driven by Juan
Manuel Fangio to win his fifth
world championship. Sterling
Moss also made his name driving
this model. The 270 horsepower
roadster is valued at over $1.5 mil-
lion.

Giddings will also bring a 1932
Alfa Romeo Monza Formula One
model formerly driven by the

are entered including noted com-
petitors such as Port Moody's
Dave Wildman.

A group of pre-war sports cars
will stage an exhibition event at
12:30 p.m. on both Saturday and
Sunday featuring such sought after
marques from the ’20s and ’30s as
Bentley, MB, Bugatti, BMW and
Aston Martin.

Racing starts at 1 p.m. both
days. Admission is $10/day and
$15/both days at the gate.

The Westwood Circuit, on Pine
Tree Way, is five minutes’ drive
north from Coquitlam Centre on
Lougheed Highway.
