cs ia por Mace wee a TREISSTN ERT eae REMEMBER Glenn Babb? He was the most effective am- Fassador South Africa is ever likely to have, and it was 2 joy to see him tweak Joe Clark’s nese. Through him we got ad sliernate view of South Africa. He is now the Director General of the South African Department of Foreign Affairs, and the other day he sent me some material showing how different the stuff is in our media from what is being reported elsewhere. That’s not surprising, seeing that . we are keyed in to the egregious Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the a writers pump that line constantly. Anything the ANC and hypocrites like Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe want is OK with them. But it has always been obvious that few blacks wish io put themselves out of work for a prin- ciple. You wouldn’t, either. Mr. Babb’s information was not government propaganda. It came “*,.it has always been obvious that few blacks wish to put themselves out of work for a principle. You wouldn’t, either. ”’ communist-controlied African Na- tional Congress, and the likes of Stephen Lewis, who when he was our ambassador to the U.N., spent all his time trying to flush South Africa down the hole. Mr. Babb made two points in his letter that should be of interest to our South Africa bashers but won’ be, om account of bow they are too dumb to imbibe facts. One was that ‘‘resistance to sanctions and violence has grown : dramaticelly within the Black community’’; the other was that Canadian sttitudes on South Africa result from “‘the determined anti-South African rhetoric of the Canadian Government.”” How many times have we been told that black South Africans don’t mind putting up with sanc- tions provided apartheid disap- pears? The politicians, the chur- ches and half-witted editorial from polls taken in South Africa by London’s Independent newspa- per and the British ITN-TV group. They showed that nearly 55 per cent are against sanctions, while over 61 per cent said it was wrong to use violence to attain political aims. Nearly 40 per cent do sup- port sanctions, but that isn’t sur- prising because 60 per cent of all those polled were out of work al- ready and have little to lose. Only 13 per cent favored vio- lence a3 a means of bringing about change and — get this — only !2 per cen? said that their greatest handicap fay in not having the vote. The ANC, of course, is dedicated to the overthrow of the South African government by any means, including violence. It has committed countless acts of indis- criminate terror. Yet our churches, our medi and our politicians con- tinue to back it. Only last week the ANC was permitted to put on a big show in Toronto, with Lewis and other prominent dopes leading the wel- come party. Even more interesting is that on- ly 1.6 of the blacks polled were worried about the Group Areas Act, which prevents blacks and others from moving into white areas. Yet that is one of the main targets of our 2nti-South Africa claque-corps. The blacks’ main concern is the economy. It is precisely the economy, however, that we are dedicated to destroying. Meanwhile, a survey taken for Southam News showed that 53 per cent of Canadians believe that tougher sanctions should be im- posed on South Africa. That too is not surprising, in view of the daily drum-beat coming out of Cttawa and the fact that the media are pack-oriented and too lazy and fearful to do much honest repor- ting where South Africa is con- cerned. Ottawa subsidizes the claque, too. 1 have in front of me a pro- pagenda sheet called Southern Africa Newswatch. It is an anti- South Africa newsletter put out every two weeks by the Interna- tional Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa (Canada). Who pays for it? You do. Right on the front page it is stated that “funding for Newswatch has been provider in part by the Depart- snent of External Affairs.’’ CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) is another federally-funded anti-South Africa propaganda agency that publicly proclaims its bias. And it costs you $2 billion a year.
