The child-minding service is cur- rently run weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., but by the end of October the hours will be extended to include weekends and the mall’s regular evening hours. On Monday, the service's first day of operation, two children were left with workers, who are qualified early childcare workers. By Tuesday the number of children had increased to five. When the service will be at full capacity there will be seven workers available to care for as many as 28 children. The cost is $3 per hour, Tario Bobick said NSNH is try- ing to provide a ‘‘stimulating ex- perience’’ for the children. “Children are not just being left in a room," she said. “There are three play areas — one for the children 18 months to three years, another for children the community,” she said. Phil McArthur, general manager of Capilano Mall, said the mall is very pleased with its child-minding service, He said it’s the first child-min- ding service of its kind on the North Shore. Other child-minding services in malls are in Coquitlam and Nanaimo. “We think we have a very unique project,’’ he said. “Our intention is to be very in- volved in the community.’’ He said the child-minding ser- vice is located in the mall’s upper level above the grand concourse. Tario Bobick said it’s an ideal location, away from the hustle and bustle of shoppers a floor below. She said the space the child- minding service is located in was especially designed for the service. “We're really pleased to be here,”’ she said.
