Assault. Police attend the
Sears store at Capilano Mail to
assist store security with a vio-
lent shoplifter. The male, Allen
Gautreau, age 38, spat in the
store detective’s face after
arrest. The suspect is well
known to police and is known
to be violent.
June 6
2. 1800-blk. Sutherland
Assault. Police attend
school. A student reported
being assualted by another.
Police met with the students
and principal to resolve situa-
tion.

man was sitting at the pier at
11:30 p.m. when he was
approached by a Native male
carrying a lacrosse stick.

Reynolds appointed critic

WEST Vancouver-Sunshine Coast
MP John Reynolds has been named
immigration critic in the Reform
Party shadow cabinet.

Reynolds told the News that a lot of areas
need to be loused at on the issue of immigra-
tion, a hot-button Reform has made a lot of
noise about.

He said he would be meeting provincial
ministers in charge of immigration and ethnic
groups across the country to get a feel for what

cople want. Reynolds said his party wants to
Pring down immigration to 150,000 a year

until the uacmployment figures drop.

“If people are coming here and taking jobs
that other people might have there is a con-
nection,” he said. “One hundred and fifty
thousand is still a sizeable number. It’s not like
we're cutting it off.”

He said citizenship and immigration has
been a litany of contradictions, scandals and
outright frauds. “I lock forward to pressuring
the minister and her government,” he said.

North Vancouver MP Ted White will likely
get considerably less national exposure in his
role as democratic reform critic and chairman
of the Scrutiny and Regulations Committee.
