Bears ground Falcons THE SECOND week of the Gordon Strutridge Football League regular season featured a runaway win and a tight contest in bantam division action. Last Sunday at Norgate Park, the Razorbacks downed the Huskies 22-0. Josh Lang, Tim Nicholson and Tim Angeleno scored majors for the winning side. The win was a big one for the Razorbacks, as they rebounded from a 40-0 loss in their season opener against the Falcons. Week three goes at Norgate Park this Sunday (noon and 2 p.m.) and Monday (noon and 2 p.m.). Fishing season goes on WELL. OUR sockeye season is over for the year. For the first time that | can remember. we have had sockeye closed by the Fisheries Department. By David Korsch Contributing Writer Due to the mysterious disap- pearance of hundreds of thou- sands of fish, every facet of the sockeye fishery has been closed in order to give all remaining fish a chance to swim up-river to spawn. But you can still fish for coho, chinook and the chums which are just beginning to run this fall. Any sockeye caught must be released. At the present time, there is no particular hootchie or Jure that is hot, though herring strip and cut- plugs have produced some coho off the Fraser River and southern Bowen Island. Chinook have not been taking any particular lures either, but some big brutes are showing up in the 25-125 feet (7.5-37.5 m) depth Tange in the same areas as the coho. (Note: the mouth of the Fraser is closed for chinook, meaning release any you catch.) As an alternative to the Fraser River fishery, there are still some chinook and a few coho off the Capilano River. Use cutplug or live herring just off the bottom in 40 to 100 feet (12 to 25 m) of water. We are also beginning to see the first of this year’s chum run. Indications are that the run is very large this year, so we should be in for some really fine sport. As a final note, the ling cod season is now closed for the year.
