Batik paintings on display

AN EXHIBIT of a centuries-old
art form — batik painting — will
be on display Sunday at Lonsdate
Quay Hotel.

Executed in the traditional wax
and dye technique, the collection
is from Cinta Batik Arts, run by a
former North Vancouver couple,
Dot and Bill Finley.

The process of batik goes back

3,000 years to Japan and China.
The art form eventually moved to
southeast Asia and Indonesia,
where it is employed widely today.

The Finleys travel to Indonesia
regularly to purchase batik paint-
ings for the North American mar-
ket.

The North Vancouver exhibit
