vegetables and Christmas cake.

would also be tax-free if bought in
containers of more than 500
grams. Chirstmas dinner sweets
such as tarts, doughnuts, muffins,
cookies or brownies are tax-free if
they are bought in quantities of
six Or more in any combination.

In addition, there is no GST
charged on gift certificates. The
GST is calculated on the full pur-
chase price of the item, with the
gift certificate treated as cash.

The GST Consumer Informa-
tion office also says that at a time
when a large number of Christmas
cards and parcels are being sent to
international destinations there is

.no GST charged when the total

postage bill is above $5, providing
the stamps are affixed in the
presence of a postal clerk.

If consumers are charged GST
for international mail above $3
they should call the GST Con-
sumer Information office toll-free
at 1-800-668-2122.
