oil furnaces are other ways modern
technology is saving homeowners
money while maintaining comfor-

Mid-efficiency oil furnaces are
designed to make the most of the
superior performance of the flame
retention head burners described
above. Non-condensing mid-effi-
ciency units also feature an im-
proved combustion chamber of ce-

ramic fibre or stainless steel.

Finally, in these units the hot
combustion gases pass through a
longer and more intricaie heat ex-
changer with a much larger surface
area. This enables the circulating
house air to extract more heat.

A mid-efficiency furnace like
this can use between 20 and 32 per
cent less fuel than a conventional
furnace producing the same
amount of heat.

But the greatest energy savings
can be obtained with condensing
oil furnaces or add-on condensing
units. These cool the flue gases to
the point where some of the water
vapor in the gases condenses and
