Learn CPR at the YR

SUDDEN DEATH from heart at-
tack is che most common medical
emergency and a leading cause of
death in Canada.

CPR (cardio pulmonary
resuscitation) is a basic skill that
can be learned to provide first-
hand help in the case of a cardiac
emergency.

In 1982 the North Shore YMCA
accepted the challenge to train
members of the community in
CPR. Since then more than 8,000
North Shore residents have been
trained.

This winter, CPR is one of many
programs being offered at the
North Shore YMCA. CPR courses
are offered at different levels and
suited to different needs.

‘CPR ‘A’ is a first-level heart-
saver course designed to teach
signals, actions, risk factors and
practical CPR skills. CPR ‘B’ is
the same as the CPR ‘A’ but in-
cludes infant/child CPR,

CPR ‘C' is recommended for
health care professionals and in-
cludes one and two person CPR.
CPR ‘D’ includes infant/child
CPR along with minor first aid
techniques for children, backyard
safety and helping the conscious
and unconscious choking victim.

CPR ‘E’ is designed for physi-
cally disabled persons, seniors and
other people who may need a
specially designed course to mect
specific needs.
