In 1940, Leskard joined the Polish Army in France and fought the invading German forces in France, Belgium and Holland. After the Second World War, he began studies at St. Martin's School of Artin London. “That's where | started art,” said Leskard, who now lives in Vancouver. Leskard’s first Canadian exhib- ition was in Oshawa, Ont. The year 1953 saw the family move from Ontario to Vancouver, where Leskard later taught art at Emily Carr School of Art and Design, and Vancouver Communi- ty College. “! started the art program (at Capilano College) in 1969 and was head of that for four years,’’ he said. After that. his teaching ran the gamut from design to drawing to commercial art. Leskard, who retired from teaching in 1984, is movirs to Kelowna at the end of the month.
