from GLI ROBERTA FINN of North Van- -couver has completed the Graduate Nurse Refresher program offered by the Open Learning Institute. After being away from the field of nursing for some time, Finn recently enrolled in the OLI pro- gram which allowed her to study at home and at a clinical agency in the region. The full-time Graduate Nurse Refresher program was designed to prepare nurses like Finn to re-enter nursing employment with con- fidence and to provide the skills to keep pace with ongoing changes in nursing. Her studies began with a mon- th-long prerequisite review follow- ed by new course material based on a self-care model of nursing practice. She completed her home-study lessons with the help of nursing tutor available via toll- free telephone. Two months. of clinical experience to augment the home study periods and a final ex- am rounded out the program. The OLI Graduate Nurse Refresher program, introduced three years ago, has made it possi- ble for registered nurses to retrain no matter where they live in British Columbia. The program is ap- proved by the Registered Nurses Association of B.C. Single parents to share experiences GOING SOLO, an eight week course for single parents is being sponsored by North Shore Family Services. The course will beg. on Friday, Sept. 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Queen Mary Community School. The fee is $30, but subsidies are provided. . Through group leadership and participation, members will be en- couraged to learn from each other as they discuss their lives as single parents.
