Market statistics just released for the six months ending June 30 reveal that the office vacancy rate in downtown Vancouver now stands at 7.2 per cent, compared with 7.8 per cent in December 1989. The last time downtown vacancies went below 7.2 per cent was in 1981, when they plum- meted to less than one per cent. ‘*A two-year hiatus in downtown office construction, together with steady leasing activi- ty over the same period, has created a bottleneck of demand in the core. In turn, this has placed upward pressure on quoted rental rates while causing tenant in- ducements to fall even lower,” said F. Peter Maddocks, vice- president and general manager of Vancouver Commercial Broker- age. SunLife Trust MEMBER: CANADA DEPOSIT ANCE GORPORATION MEMBER SUNLIFE GROUP OF COMPAN GIC—INT. P.D. ANN.ORC.A.
