A ‘restoring romance’

Art Horton and his girl-
friend Linda Roper restore
cars. The North Vancouver
couple have recently com-
pleted the restoration of a
1970 Plymouth Road Runner
Super Bird.

Only 1,935 were built so
Chrysler could qualify for
stock Car racing.

With its huge 440 cu. in.
engine, the car is capable of
220 mph in racing tune.

The body was in pretty
rough shape when Art and
Linda began work and it
took six months of labour to
restore it.

Valued at $16,000, Art has
had some interesting offers
including one from a fellow
who wanted to trade the
Original “Batmobile” from
the TV series “Batman.”

Model T. Roadster Pickup.
Back in those days it was
common for a farmer to use
the pickup bed for work
during the week, then unbolt
it and replace it with a con-
ventional trunk for doing the
town. Hence the unusual
convertible / pickup.

The frame was re-engin-
eered with a one of a kind
suspension. In fact, the front

suspension contains parts
from five different cars. The
engine is a 327 Chevrolet
with Powerglide and a Chev
rear end.

Credit for the excellent
upholstery job goes to Art’s
mom, Ruth, who also made
the top and tonneau cover.

The car took 10 months to
build and is valued = at
$12,000.
