CAPILANO Lake is
high and almost dry.

The lake, which is nestled
in an area just west of Grouse
Mountain, also serves as one
of three drinking water reser-
voirs for othe Greater
Vancouver Regional District.
Recently it has been drained.

While some water remains
in the reservoir, it has been
taken out of service with the
GVRD"s other two reservoirs
— Seymour aad Coquicam
Lakes -- serving to supply the
Lower Mainland with all of its
water needs. The Capilano
reservoir normally supplies
water to West Vancouver and

pare for seepage control work
around the east) end oof
Cleveland Dam, an area long
suspected of requiring reme-
dial work, said =GVRD
spokesman Bill Morrell.

The preliminary | work
should be finished in March
when the reservoir will be
allowed to retill,

Meanwhile, Capilano Fish
Hatchery manager Robin
Dickson said draining the lake
has affected the downstream
water quality at his facility.

“We've had some higher
scaiment flows in the water
supply,” said Dickson, adding
the area’s fish are unlikely to
be affected by the change.
