Aptly titled Group Home, the episode is the latest offering in the “Li-part CBC regional drama an- thology that is already appearing in British Columbia homes. : But viewers hoping to catch a glimpse of the house when the episode airs March 21 will be disappointed — bad weather restricted the filming to indoor « scenes. . “We shot everything sunny,” says assistant director Teresa (TC) Trowsdale as she points to the light shining into the ‘room, giving a .*perfect’ day outside. : - “We were going to (film the outside of the house), but it keeps “raining.””: aon * Using the eight-bedroom former group home gives an ideal look to the. episode, production manager Jan Durban says above the direc- tor’s shouted instructions. “It’s a general problem with location shocting,’’? she laments. “If‘you get it.to look how you want you can’t get a camera crew in. Lunch Daily Buffet Dinner Sundays ~ Fully Licensed land “The people are proud that we use their neighborhood.”’ Included in the cast and crew is an animal celebrity — Zeus the cat — that put in some unscheduled dialogue when he spoke up during the recent filming. “We didn't pay him extra because it wasn’t in the script,” jokes Trowsdale. Lies features home-grown stories about people in the city, explains CBC drama coordinator Joyce Tinnion. “It’s meant to be set in Vancouver (and area).”’ Tinnion describes the North Shore-filmed Group Home as ‘‘the closest stab at reality we’ve done :so far. It’s close to what a home is like — not pretty.” Former group home worker and principal episode actor Garwin Sanford agrees. ~" “It’s a realistic portrayal of a day in the life,’’ says trim, good- looking Sanford, whose character, Steve, runs the group home with his wife, Martha. ‘One of the reasons | liked the script.so much is. because it is as realistic an approach as you're ever going to get on TV — in my opi- nion it’s real.’’ CBC camera crews have been all over the Lower Mainland filming this series, but this is the first time a Lies episode has been shot on the North Shore. - “In our location hunt, this was the best we found,’’ explained.
