CFCs — chlorofluorocarbons — deplete the ozone f!ayer, which absorbs and filters the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. For several years the province ‘has worked with the GVRD to de- velop regulations prohibiting the leakage or venting of ozone- depleting substances from equip- ‘ment containing CFCs. In February, the province pro- claimed a new regulation pro- hibiting the retease of ozone- depleting substances into the at- mosphere. The GVRD recently signed a three-year contract with Pierre CFC Recycling Ltd. for. the re- _ covery of CFCs from damaged or unstable refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners dropped off at 15 sites inthe region, including the solid’ waste transfer station in North Vancouver. The North Shore community has identified a need for more readily avail- able and local community accessible assessment and therapeutic interven- tion counsatling services for older youth (13-19) who have been sexually abused (especially males and pregnant and parenting teens.) The Initial Ru phase of this project would focus on outreach Information services, and accessing the target population with written information and therapeutic # support in more general areas. A direct therapeutic intervention service will toilow the outreach, information-based initiative.
